Providing services in Regina schools and neighbourhoods for over 30 years
Regina Food for Learning (RFFL) is a non-profit that partners with the community to provide nourishing food to children in schools. We are the largest child feeding program in the city, providing services to Regina schools and neighbourhoods since 1988.
RFFL's nutrition program has supported thousands of school children across Regina in over 40 schools and community centres. Our program helps build community and support children to be engaged in school and in their lives.
Due to COVID-19 facility closures back in spring 2020, Regina Food for Learning programming was suspended from mid-March to June. The major concern for us during that time was where kids in our program would access food during the shutdown. Fortunately, many of the food security organizations in Regina were still up and running and took on the extra task of getting food to hungry kids in Regina.
We decided to support these efforts by donating a significant amount of our resources to the children's bagged lunches initiative which was shared by REACH and the City of Regina. We also chose to support our staff by keeping them on the payroll until June.
Over the summer we worked in collaboration with schools and our partners on a reopening plan to keep our staff, volunteers, and schools safe. Staff and volunteers self-screen before coming into work and wear face masks while at work. There's also increased cleaning onsite, physical distancing in place, and process changes for schools picking up food boxes to reduce contact between school staff and our staff.
Thanks to our staff, volunteers, and school staff, we are now back up and running and providing healthy snacks and meals to children and youth in 13 Regina schools.
